About the FVTN

MISSION

The Fraser Valley Technology Network links government, business and education organizations to support and advance the technology industry and stimulate economic growth in the Fraser Valley region.

The activities of the network support three objectives:
1. To create partnerships that leverage university research and expertise to assist government, industry and community initiatives
2. To provide events that inspire and educate business owners and managers
3. To build world recognition for the Fraser Valley's regional strengths

PAST

The Fraser Valley Technology Network (FVTN) was founded in July 1999 as an initiative of the then newly formed Technical University of BC and the City of Surrey Economic Development Office (EDO). The founding group of six people started reached out to individuals and companies in the region who were interested in networking and learning together to build better opportunities for technology companies. Over the years, the FVTN has hosted many successful events to foster business-to-business connections and increase dialogue on working together for the benefit of the whole area.

PRESENT

The Technical University of BC was integrated into Simon Fraser University in 2002 as the School of Interactive Arts and Technology. Since then, SFU-Surrey has expanded the number of programs on the campus to include computer science, business, education, social science, and community programs. SFU-Surrey has maintained its support for the FVTN as has the City of Surrey Economic Development Office. Operations to support FVTN activities are now centralized at the university with staff support from the Director's Office as well as the University-Industry Liaison Office. The staff work with oversight from an Advisory Board to develop program plans and strategic initiatives.

Current Advisory Board members include:
- Doug Blakeway, Strategic Technologies
- Steve Campbell, Campbell & Company Strategies Inc.
- Val Caskey, City of Surrey
- Bob de Wit, Corporate and Business Development
- Donna Jones, City of Surrey
- Trevor Kray, Business Objects
- John McKendry, Simon Fraser University
- Wayne Thompson, ACR Systems Inc.

FUTURE

Working together the FVTN members and sponsors will evolve the Network's programs and services to achieve its objectives. We look to offer more opportunities for creating partnerships and business among members, offer direct business advice and information, develop channels for student placements in companies and agencies, and lead region-wide major discussions on the issues that affect social and economic development of the Fraser Valley community.

We need and appreciate your participation and input to FVTN programs and strategic directions. Please feel free to contact the Operations Office at with your questions and comments.
